My 7 Links - A Quick Look at the Archives

Summit morning on Mt Kinabalu

I was recently (or months ago, but who's counting) nominated by Annie of Wayward Traveler and Dave of What's Dave Doing to take part in the "My 7 Links" project.  The brainchild of the fine folks @ Tripbase, it's a neat way to look back at what is coming close to two years here at Skinny Backpacker.

1. My Most Beautiful Post:  Underworld Live Redux

I'll be honest, I don't know what my most beautiful post is.  Maybe you can pick for me instead.  These days, I'm listening to a lot of Underworld, and I really like this photo I shot so let's go with that.

2. My Most Popular Post: Unreal Antarctica

My first collection of photos from the least inhabited continent on the planet, Unreal Antartica.  Who knew that pictures of ice, snow, and penguins pooing would be so popular?

Sunday Signday - No Batman

Welcome to the very first Sunday Signday!  It's no secret that I love a good sign, and now it's time to share. Bring on the good times.

First thing that came to mind for me when I saw this sign?

No Batman.

You would think the local government in Trollhättan, Sweden would welcome a fearless superhero.  Evidently this is not the case.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check these out.

If you like crazy signs as much as I do, you may want to check out the "Say What??" series from Aaron over at Aaron's Worldwide Adventures

A Night of MMA Action

A defeated Hamid Corassani is helped up by a teammate following his loss in the main event at The Zone FC 8: Inferno in Gothenburg, Sweden

I recently covered The ZoneFC 8: Inferno for UK mixed-martial arts site YourMMA.tv.  Although I wasn't planning on shooting, I did snap a few of the action with a 35mm lens I had on my camera that evening.  It was an exciting night of action in Gothenburg, Sweden.  After the jump, you will find a selection from the action, and you can also read my event report over at YourMMA.tv.

Culture Quirks: Sweden's "Semla"

It certainly isn't news to anyone who knows me that I like dessert.  Candy, pastries, chocolate, ice cream... you name it.  And really, why not?  Seriously, if you can tell me why not, leave it in the comments.  I'll wait for your response and occupy myself while I am eating more ice cream.

So it was of no surprise that a Swedish pastry called Semla came across my radar.  These days, it's a cardamom-spiced wheat bun with the top cut off and some of the inside dug out. This void is replaced by almond goo and whipped cream, after which the bun-top is replaced and a sprinkling of icing sugar is put on to finish off the package.  It's all about presentation you know...

Culture Quirks: Sweden's "Days"

From the first time I arrived in Sweden and saw they had a gigantic candy warehouse beside a big Ikea store, I knew I would be in for an interesting stay.

Sweden is a country that like rules, cheese, licorice, fancy cup holders in their cars, and "Days of the Year."

I present you with a couple of "Days" for your consideration.
